Follow Your Excitement: A Powerful Path to Fulfilment
Do you remember the last time you felt truly excited? That electric buzz in your veins, the spark in your eyes, and the sense of possibility in the air?
Excitement is often underestimated, but it’s one of the most powerful forces we can harness in our lives. It’s not just a fleeting emotion—it’s an essential driver of progress, growth, and deep fulfillment. It’s pointing you towards something that could truly make you happy.
But here’s the catch: so often, we push that excitement down.
We tell ourselves:
"That’s too crazy or too risky."
"I don’t have time for that."
“I don’t dare to do this.”
"I’ve got more serious obligations."
"I don’t have enough money for that."
"What will other people think if I do this?"
"Yeah, but I’ve already made other plans."
Sound familiar? My brain does this all the time—throwing up roadblocks to protect me from the unknown. It’s our comfort zone speaking, urging us to stay put where it feels safe.
But here’s the truth: oftentimes, this is biased decision-making. When we let that voice win, we are making choices based on past experiences and fear, not on the endless possibilities that come from following excitement. The brain wants certainty, but certainty is a dream-killer.
Your brain is wired for survival, your heart for adventure.
Experience has taught me that when you follow your excitement and make courageous decisions, it is always rewarded somehow (more on that in the next post).
So here’s my challenge for you in the coming weeks:
When you feel that surge of excitement, pause and check in on the excitement.
What is this telling you? Where is this guiding you? What is it showing you about what you really want?
Then, be attentive to all the excuses or fears your brain throws up. Are they really valid? They could be, but maybe not. What could you gain from following the excitement? How can you minimize the fear or the risk?
Can you take one small action today to move a little closer to that excitement?
Feel free to share your action in the comment section.
Personal story
In 2015, I was super excited about taking a sabbatical to travel around the world. But then, my brain started throwing up all the usual excuses.
"Yeah, but you’re about to get promoted. Maybe wait."
So I did.
I got the promotion, but I still wanted to go.
"Yeah, but now you’ve been promoted, you should wait out of respect. Just a little longer."
I waited again.
Eventually, I realized that if I didn’t make the decision right there and then, it would never happen. I took the leap. I communicated it to my boss, followed my excitement, and honestly—it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
Follow your excitement. It’s there for a reason. ♥️
PS: We’ll soon be launching a program to discover who you are, what you really want and how you can unleash your potential to follow your excitement with passion and perseverance. If you’re interested, send me a message and I’ll make sure you’ll be notified first when we launch.
